Jurisprudence is the legal and ethical knowledge that governs pharmacy practice in Canada and international pharmacy graduates must demonstrate their understanding of Canadian pharmacy laws and ethics to be licensed. Candidates must show their grasp of federal and provincial drug laws, regulations, and professional ethics.

• Controlled Substances: Laws on narcotics, record-keeping, storage, and disposal.

• Dispensing: Guidelines on filling prescriptions, labelling, transferring prescriptions, and compounding.

• Pharmacy Operations: Standards on pharmacy ownership, management, and operations.

• Regulatory Colleges: Understanding of the role and function of regulatory bodies, including practice scope and registration.

• Professional Ethics and Standards: Commitment to confidentiality, documentation practices, and reporting obligations.

• Privacy and Other Laws: Regulations that impact pharmacy practice beyond the immediate scope of medicines.

Prince Edward Island, as of July 2023, does not require this examination for licensure.
